Extending The Years Of Your YTX7A

Is your YTX7A-BS battery no longer lasting near as long as it should? If you are receiving anything fewer than 3 years out of your motorcycle battery, then its probably brought on by the lack of upkeep carried out on the bike battery throughout the off season. I will explain and emphasis one extremely important aspect of sustaining any type of motorcycle battery, to keep it charged.

The YTX7A-BS bike battery is not your average lead acid battery, this battery was manufactured using AGM technology. The YTX7A-BS battery is designed to be entirely sealed and maintenance free, meaning that you will never have to add water or inspect the acid levels in the battery. Due to the AGM design, the YTX7A-BS battery is now capable of two things, cold cranking amps and resilience. The unique AGM plating employed in this batteries manufacturing allows for this bike battery to stay small in size and still pump out a superior quantity of cold cranking amps. The design of the plates also permits the battery to handle a lot more vibration, thus increasing its lifespan. However, just like any wet lead acid battery, the YTX7A-BS battery cannot sit around for a lengthy period of time without being used.

The number one killer of all motorcycle batteries regardless of the size or make, is corrosion. Corrosion will start to build up inside any lead acid battery when it is left to sit in a discharged condition for any duration of time. Unfortunately, the single thing the majority of people are not aware of is the fact the YTX7A-BS battery will discharge itself at a natural pace when not in service. So in other words, as soon as you set your motorcycle up for storage, the bike battery is most likely completely charged. After about 3 months in storage the battery will be in a low enough state of charge for corrosion to begin building up inside the battery. What corrosion essentially does, is kill the capacity or starting power of your bike battery by eroding away at the interior plates of the battery. The only way to impede the build up of corrosion inside your YTX7A-BS battery is to keep it in a charged condition over the off-season. Yuasa batteries are the OEM products used in the majority of production model bikes across the world.
